Are there any travel agencies arranging travel for Kitchener-Waterloo’s Oktoberfest?
Myself and a few friends are looking to attend this year, for the first time in 20 years and are traveling from Newfoundland. Ideally we’d like to find a nice hotel near Concordia Club or one of the other main events on the first weekend. Travel that could be streamlined (all air travel) from St. John’s would be a huge thing in maximizing our time at the events! Not really keen on flying to Toronto then driving a rental – if we can avoid it.
Bad weekend to drive. : )
There is an airport in Kitchener, but I don’t know about flights to St. John’s – I know you can get to Halifax (though with a change, I think) and you can probably make another change for St. Johns. If there are a group of you, you could book a private car from Pearson Airport in Toronto with Airways Transit, the local airport transit company, or you could book individual seats on their group vehicles – I think the whole car is cheaper for a group. They’ll pick you up at the airport at a prearranged arrival time, and pick you up at your hotel for the flight home. I haven’t heard of their having any crashes during Octoberfest, and they make many trips a day! Their website is http://www.airwaystransit.com/
For a hotel, I recommend the Walper Terrace – it’s centrally located downtown. There are many other nice hotels – most of the chains available here. You don’t need a travel agent, but you do need to do it early – when we have to bring visitors here during Octoberfest on university business, we often have difficulty finding hotel rooms.
